That is a new way to look at it. However, the key there may be in the words
"my most loyal servant who has already reentered my service." In my mind,
Crouch never truly left Voldemort's service. He spent time in Azkaban, then
was basically under house arrest with the Imperious Curse preventing him
from doing what he desired. As soon as he was able to break it the first
thing he did was run to Voldemort.
However, if Crouch Jr is the one who "will be killed, of course" which he
was (or nearly), that means that Snape was the one who "has already
reentered my service." Still it is theoretically possible that Snape had
sent word or something to Voldemort/Wormtail when his scar begin to grow
stronger. In which case he would have already pledged allegiance to
Voldemort before the graveyard scene, and not be necessarily required to be
there. That stretches it a bit, but I guess it's not impossible.
On the other hand, Snape more than likely did return to Voldemort the night
Dumbledore sent him to do whatever. And he turned up alive at the end of
year feast, which means if he *did* return to Voldemort (and he certainly
went somewhere that night) he didn't kill him.
Now, on to the topic of Snape's death. That would definitely be a hard one
to write. I'm beginning to almost like Snape, so it would also be a hard
one to read. I don't see him dying in book 5, though. Later on, maybe. I
think there's too much to learn about him to kill him off this quickly.
