Hey wait a minute... what about all that gold in Gringotts? That didn't come from James and Lily?
Flipping through the Movie That Shall Not Be Named, Hagrid stands with Harry before his opened vault. Harry's jaw is slack and he sees his fortune for thefirst time - and Hagrid says something like "You didn't your mum and dad would leave you with nothin, did yeh?" But in PS/SS, all Hagrid says is: "All Your's."
So who DID Harry inherit his fortune from? Had I been assuming that this fortune came from James and Lily when the gold in that vault is actually belonging to Sirius Black? Or is this a separate account that really belongs to Dumbledore and that's why McGonagall goes to check with Dumbledore before making the purchase of the Nimbus 2000...
