Aha!  I've got it!  Snape had a previous run in with Granny, and held it
against her by withholding information that could've saved the Longbottoms.
Now he feels guilty and takes it out on Neville.  Which would've made it
even worse on Snape when he found out about Neville's boggart.  And at the
feast when the cracker Dumbledore pulls with him pops out a hat with a
vulture. That was priceless!
