I just re-read GoF (US version) and three things caught my eye...
1. Harry receives "a handy penknife with attachments to unlock any lock and undo any knot...(pg 410)" from Sirius for Christmas. In true JKR style, she lists this along with all his other Christmas presents so it doesn't stand out so much. My prediction: it will come in handy in OoP. Perhaps to open Moody's trunk for some reason?...
2. pg 431: Hermione is telling off Rita Skeeter in the Three Broomsticks, and Rita replies: "Sit down, you silly little girl, and don't talk about things you don't understand," said Rita Skeeter coldly....(re: Ludo Bagman)
Wait, I thought. I've heard something similar to this line before...aha, here it is...
PoA pg 360: "KEEP QUIET, YOU STUPID GIRL!" Snape shouted, looking suddenly quite deranged. "DON'T TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" (Re: Black's innocence)
Interesting...is this just a common put-down for girls in the Potterverse? Or, is it something that JKR heard as a "swotty" little girl and brought it out again for her "younger" self -- Hermione? Or, is this just the lowest put down you can give Hermione, who prides herself on being "the cleverest witch of her age"? Just thought I'd draw that comparison.
3. GoF pg 560: Harry and Dumbledore are looking at the stunned Krum and the missing Barty Crouch Sr...."(Dumbledore) raised his wand (which was lit from lumos) into the air and pointed it in the direction of Hagrid's cabin. Harry saw something silvery dart out of it and streak away through the trees like a ghostly bird."
Now, I used to think that this was Moody/Crouch in the invisibility cloak, after he buried his father's body after he transfigured it into a bone. But, Moody/Crouch says that he carried his father's body into the forest, covered it with the I.C., then doubled back around so he looked like he had just come out of the castle to talk to Harry and Dumbledore. He wouldn't have had his IC on when Harry and Dumbledore were looking at Hagrid's cabin, right? He didn't bury the "bone" until after Dumbledore told him it was imperative that they find Mr. Crouch, and Moody/Crouch waited until everyone was gone (watched the map) then buried the bone in the dug-up earth around Hagrid's cabin.
So, my question is this...What was that silvery thing? And, did Dumbledore see it as well? Is that why he pointed his wand there in the first place?
I couldn't find these in the archives, but I've had some trouble with Yahoomort, so that doesn't mean these things are not there. If these have been discussed at length, please let me know where to find them!
