I don't think that was any natural shield at work. It
was Harry's fancy footwork. He was zigzagging between
headstones. That is what they do in the movies to
avoid being hit by gunfire.

I wondered about that, too. How much could the
spectators see inside the maze? They were elevated
since they were sitting in the stands that are used to
watch the Quidditch. I would think at least the judges
would have been able to see into the maze.
