Hagrid and the Weasley house elf

Well, It's no one particular moment, its' just generally he 
doesn't have any great shows of bravery, most of the characters have 
had their moments whereas Hagrid, when others found out about his 
mother being a giant, went to pieces. Surely bravery would constitute 
his being able to stand above (no pun intended!) that?

We all even the great Harry Potter have areas in our life that we loose control of.  I believe the whole mother issue with Hagrid was an example of that.  And may I add that MANY of the Gryffindor show some since non bravery at certain times.  I mean look at Ron he got all upset about a spider, if your ideas are correct you are assuming that most brave people would be able to defy this.  I believe that the best way to assess bravery is to see how they preform when the pressure is on them.  That's just my thought.
 
Also, who is to say that the Weasley's want a house elf.  I do believe that Arthur at one point said that he agreed with HErmione about the injustices that plagued many house elfs.  Why should we assume that he would Winky to be their house elf.
