While we're discussing parallels between HP and Christ, I'd like to point out some similarities between the series and Arthurian *legend* <<not what historians think may be the *real* story. This has probably been discussed before *sighs* oh well.
Obvious connections:
1 - Special boy born to noble, powerful parents
2 - Taken by wizard at time of mother's death
3 - Sent to live with people who do not know his significance/aren't particularly nice to him.
4 - Grows up in the shadow of his guardian's son
5 - Suddenly finds out he's *really* important
6 - Sets off to claim his heritage and make the world a better place.
7 - The connections between Merlin and Dumbledore are pretty hard to miss.
8 - The sorcerer's stone -- the holy grail -- you know what I'm getting at.
9 - Excalibur and Harry's wand seem to mirror each other also.
Some possible/not as concrete connections:
1 - In some legends, doesn't Arthur have some sort of birthmark/scar that identifies him as a Pendragon?
2 - In most Arthurian stories, Arthur's personality is very much akin to Harry's. Good guy, brave, wants to help everyone, inherently noble, attracts the unwavering loyalty of others, etc.
What all of this might mean/some future connections?
1 - Ron might betray Harry (Lancelot is Arthur's most trusted lieutenant, betrays him)
2 - Maybe theory that Dumbledore somehow set up James and Lily's relationship in order to get Harry (the boy that can vanquish Voldy) actually holds some water (I'd really hate to think this).
3 - :( Harry dies at the end. Oh, heck, I don't like any of these theories I'm coming up with. Maybe I should just stop now. Although ??!! in legend it is always said that Arthur is supposed to rise again -- tying into the resurrection theme throughout the books.
4 - Someone (lady of the lake-esqe) will give Harry a special weapon (wand?) to help him fight V. after his special wand is broken/lost. Maybe the next time V and Harry have a go at it, V figures out a way to destroy Harry's wand, everyone is in complete despair because the only effective weapon against V's Avada Kedavra is broken -- and then Harry gets a special gift.
5 - Someone will trick Harry into trusting them, with adverse consequences (al la Morgan le Fay).
6 - Harry may sink to the level of the Dark Side in his attempt to fight them. (akin to when Arthur orders all male babies killed in an attempt to destroy his and Morgan's child). This will come back to haunt him.
7 - Umm..I have to go eat now.
