Thanks for that thoughtful response, I guess it is possible I was sucked in 
by the thought that Dumbledore, being referred to as the greatest wizard 
alive, also meant that he was the all-knowing, all seeing type.  However JKR 
does ascribe many human tendencies to all the characters, so I suppose it's 
possible that D'Dore being so powerful does not equate with his cognitive 
state.  *lightbulb coming on* -- just remembered how it's been referred to 
more than once that aside from being so powerful he's slightly "mad", which 
could apply to this question I suppose.  Now he's changed in my vision to 
remind me of a sociology prof I once had, who was a brilliant teacher, but 
outside of the classroom he was rather absentminded, etc.  Not that I'm 
saying D'Dore is absentminded, just drawing the equation that powerful might 
not = being aware of every occurrence on Hogwarts grounds.  Hmmm food for 
thought.  And thanks for the insight!
