Draco's Grades

I may be wrong, but didn't Draco mention Hermione in the 
preceding sentence?  Something to the effect of "I would be on 
top if it weren't for that teacher's pet Granger".  It would be an
odd comment if there were a lot of other people between them 
on the list.  I always assumed from this that Draco was very near 
the top of the class.  Obviously Lucius wasn't interested in such 
excuses.
