Oooh!  A *new* mystery!  Why would they omit the paragraph about the 
shoe polishing?

Um.  I don't know either, Phillis.  Maybe, just maybe the problem is 
that Dobby shouldn't have a rag in his hand?  After all, if Dobby 
is "heavily bandaged" and has to catch a sock later in this scene, 
perhaps it was felt that Dobby shouldn't have anything in his hands?

Eh, that's pretty lame.  We can do better than that.  Anyone else 
have a theory?
