The US hardcover version HAS the shoe-polishing scene. I'll have the 
check the US paperback version, but I recall it was in there too.

I think the changes may coincide with the upcoming movie. Afterall, 
the other movie had some alterations. I suspect the same of this 
movie and the film versions of PoA and GoF. More sinister 
speculations: the delay in the fifth book may be due to making it 
easier to adapt from text to movie.
