Yes. Crouch the DE had real motive for being cruel to Harry. He had to
protect Harry and guide him through the tasks, although he was his master's
enemy and agent of his downfall. He was preserving him for Voldemort to deal
with and it must have been ever so tempting to have a go at him himself. This
was a way he could do it without 'harming' him.
He had an even more personal motive for being cruel to Neville as it was for
Crucio'ing Neville's parents that he was sent to Azkaban.
He knew *exactly* what he was doing, showing those curses to those two boys.
And then he demonstrates his 'concern' for them.
The sadist!
Yes. I'm sure he loved that lesson every bit as much as the students who
weren't unfortunate enough to have had personal experience of the
Unforgivables.
