Dumbledore at this point /knows/ that Buckbeak
was saved, yes.
He has no way of knowing if it way Harry and
Hermione (or does he?)
He has certainly no way of knowing if they will
be successfull in saving Black.

At this point, to Dumbledore, Black could easily
be the 'more than one' life they might save.
