I have a feeling that Neville's parents were in Gryffindor as well. And we 
also know that the hat does take into consideration where the person being 
sorted wants to be. Neville's sorting did take awhile, so I always assumed 
they had a discussion about where he wanted, and Neville was adamant about 
Gryffindor.
