I've been considering this whole question (Snape's reaction to
Harry's mention of Lucius at the reunion at the end of GoF) and I had
a new thought. (Sorry if this has been discussed ad infinitim).
Here goes: what if Snape was convinced that Lucius had honestly
renounced his association with Voldie? Does anyone other than Harry
and Dobby know that Lucius gave Ginny the diary in CoS? What if this
news really is a shock to him--Voldie does call Lucius "my slippery
friend." Perhaps they are close friends--and/or Snape realizes what
kind of problems Lucius could cause, being as powerful as he is.

What do ya think? Is Snape truly shocked and disappointed at the
news that a close friend (someone who might understand what it is
like to be a former DE but to have rejected it) has betrayed him? Or
is it just me being sleepy...
