Luna has family to go home to (her father) so I do not think she 
stayed at Hogwarts for the summer.  Maybe she is a werewolf and the 
day the train left fell on a full moon so the staff had to make 
special arrangements for her.     Or, she may be still looking around 
trying to find her stuff and her dad had to come get her????
