I've pondered (and posted) on DDs actions with James and Lily before.
I think Snape is an irrelevence in this scenario; what matters is DD and 
what he knew. He knew the prophecy. One possible interpretation of 
the prophecy *could* (not definite) foretell the deaths of the parents
of the chosen one. If this is so, then the deaths have to happen to
provide Voldemorts Bane.
If true, DD had no alternative but to be prepared to sacrifice the parents
of the child Voldy picked.
And he's cold-blooded enough to do it.
