years between books

Why is everyone saying that there is going to be a wait of several 
years before we get Book 6.  Is this official or just wild guesswork, 
based on the time between Books 4 and 5?  I understood that Book 6 
was going to be much shorter than the two previous ones, so I hardly 
think a wait of years is likely.  God, I hope not. especially as 
there probably WILL be a healthy gap between Books 6 and 7.
Please say it isn't so.
