Harry, a red herring???  Wouldn't that be a kick in the pants? :)  As 
for the prophecy, when it was made, Harry and Neville weren't born 
yet, so it couldn't be labeled with anything (hence the "?").  Then 
when Harry was born, it was assumed to be about him.
