The Bloody Baron's identity

What fascinates me about the Bloody Baron is not that the blood is 
silvery but the fact that he's bloody at all! We can assume that 
NHN's death was pretty bloody in itself, so why no mention of his 
bloody ruffles? And, IIRC Nick can even change his ruffle if he 
wishes, so why didn't the Baron ever bother to change his ghostly 
garb?
