That's an easy point to explain. they simply split first year into
three groups.
Since it seems only first year have flying lessons. Mme Hooch can
manage more split classes than the other professeurs.
She had to keep an eye on every students, and if the entire class is
reunited she can't protect everyone.
Why not 20 gryffindors ? because Hogwarts seems to favor the mixed
class, maybe to favor friendship or rivalry between house.
Or since they are about thirty, Harry and co are in the only one to be
in a mixed class. (2 groups of 20 griffindors + 2 groups of 20
slytherin + 1 group of 10 griffindor and 10slytherins)
It could also explain why we only heard about ten griffindor in Harry's
year. Because that would be Harry's group.
Is there canon which say that Snape is _the_ only one potion master ?
Or is there other teachers, and Snape is the _main_ potion master (he
always managed Harry's group because he wanted to secretly protect
_"or" or "and" bully_ him )
