Anyway, I seem to recall that Dumbledore actually suggested to James
and Lily that he act as Secret Keeper (once again, if that's wrong,
please correct me), which would rule out most of your possibilities.

I think that James and Lily did not use Dumbledore as their Secret Keeper because they didn't want to endanger him. Dumbledore who doesn't know where L&J are hiding is much safer than he who does. And Dumbledore's a lot more useful to the WW alive than hunted and/or dead.
Of course, that only works if Voldemort had wanted the Potters so much that he'd have risked facing Dumbledore. I think that'st he case, but it's debatable. (What isn't? <g>)
