But, the Potters, Sirius, Remus, Peter, all knew there was a traitor
in their midst. They all knew of each others' Animagus ability. No
one knew at the time whether the traitor might have already spilled
that info to the DEs, in which case, one's Animagus form would not
necessarily be a defense. As to leaving the country, I have no
theory. It certainly doesn't seem to be something that anyone thought
of.
