Very good point. I do wonder though if Voldemort didn't know that it would be a certain bloodline that would defeat him and that is why Harry is the last of the Potters. 
It is strange that he has absolutely no living relatives on his father's side isn't it? No cousins, aunts, uncles, or grandparents. 
The only living relatives he has are the Dursley's and I have begun to wonder if Voldemort wasn't systematically killing off all of James and Lily's relatives while searching for Lily and James. 
Maybe Lily performed the charm to keep Petunia's family safe on Privet dr. 
Sure they didn't get along, but Petunia was still family to Lily.
The secret would be of course that Petunia's sister is a witch, something Petunia would never reveal.
 If Voldemort was seeking the Potters he wouldn't only look in the wizarding world, he would search for them amongst all of their family and friends.
