Tom, my thoughts on this passage were simply that Harry *was* 
following orders.  

" 'Right', said George briskly.  'Don't forget to wipe it after 
you've used it--' " (PoA US Hardcover, chapter 10, page 193)

You should also know that this is exactly the way that JKR has 
managed to blind-side me with most of her plot turns...I read most 
things innocently.

Now you've got me pondering *everything* I had innocently dismissed 
regarding the map.  Darn you! ;-)  Oh, well...I'm re-reading PoA 
right now...so maybe I'll have some great thoughts on more of this in 
a day or so (yeah, right).
