as 'ebony' or 'raven'

Or, borrowing from numerousod fan fics I've read, Harry would be
described as "the green-eyed boy" and Ron "the red-haired boy" at
least 50% of the time. I've tweaked more than one fan-fic author
about this. (This is part of why these folks are UNPAID authors...)

<and Harry could notice that Hermione's or Ginny's eyes are 'honey-
coloured.' (And as clear as Himalayan lakes. <rolls eyes>) And I
honestly hope that the word 'blossomed' won't be used to describe any
girl in OoP.

She had blossomed into a beautiful young lady over the summer. Her
enormous honey eyes were as clear as Himalayan lakes."

Let's hope none of these girls "blossoms" so much that she starts to,
uh, fall out of the top of her Hogwarts robes and, uh, distract other
students.... there's way too much of this scenario in fan fic too...

Don't worry, Maria, I think JKR has already shown us she's not likely
to travel down Sappiness Trail...
