This works beautifully with my theory that Amos Diggory is going to
be causing lots of trouble for Harry. He was consumed with grief at
the end of GoF, but when he emerges from this stage he's going to be
angry, and Harry will be the target of his anger. He's in a
position to put major pressure on the MoM, and we know that it won't
take much for Fudge to cave in to pressure from the grief-stricken,
MoM employee Diggory. After all, who's going to be a more
sympathetic figure? The (according to R. Skeeter) unbalanced,
disturbed Harry or the father of poor Cedric?

Yes, but he really must get out in time to go back to Hogwarts
(under a cloud of suspicion and distrust). Perhaps the Weasleys
will manage to rescue him somehow, putting Arthur and Molly more
openly at odds with Fudge than they'd like to be at this point.
I really think this works.
