accomplish many things, but bringing the dead back to life is not
one of them. It just occured to me that this could apply to the Time
Turner. That would explain why they can't go back in time to save
Lily & James (and countless others) Also why Dumbledore rushes
Harry and Hermione into the locked room in PoA (barely giving them
time to explain the situation) before he more or less instructs them
to save Buckbeak & Sirius.
This is just a hypothetical alternative to pre-existing (however
vague) you-can't-change-things-that-already-happened theories about
the Time-Turner.<<
I was actually thinking that maybe you can only use the time-turner
in a day. For example, whatever you want to change has to be done
on that day. It just clicked when I thought of this section of PoA:
Hermione's Secret - P. 393 - US paperback
"What we need," said Dumbledore slowly, and his blue eyes moved from
Harry to Hermione, "is more *time*."
<snip>
"But remember this, both of you: *you must not be seen.* Miss
Granger, you know the law - you know what is at stake....*You-must-
not-be-seen.*
<snip>
"I am going to lock you in. It is-" he consulted his watch, "five
minutes to midnight. Miss Granger, three turns should do it. Good
luck."
It's obvious that one rule is: you're not be seen. There has to be
more laws in regards to this and what stickbook states above. What
if you must go back before midnight and re-do the deed. If not:
"Hermione - what'll happen - if we don't get back inside - before
Dumbledore locks the door?" Harry panted.
"I don't want to think about it!" Hermione moaned, checking her
watch again. "One minute!" (P.417)
What doesn't she want to think about? What could happen? They'll
cease to exist? Has this been discussed before?
