The key is that not all people could see all things, and I would guess
the no one could see everything. Plus, I suspect the sound was
limited; we know outside sound was limited in the maze, and I can only
speculate about the sound coming out of the maze.

So the people who are low enough in the stands and close enough to see
fake!Moody would be people in a postion to see him act, but not be
able to see what he was acting on. Remember it is not common knowledge
that Moody can see through things. There are a few students who have
experience with it like Lavender Brown who was reading he astrology
chart under her desk, and Harry, but the general student body and
general wizard world are probably not aware that Moody can do this. So
/some/ people saw Moody doing /something/, but who knows what it was.

The people in a position to see an object/animal/curse/charm disappear
from Harry's path are not the people who can see Moody acting. Also,
the crowd only has the most general idea of what is suppost to happen
in the maze. Animals/objects/curses/charms may have been constructed
to randomly appear and disappear in order to make the course that much
more unpredictable.

People may have seen something going on with Viktor and Cedric, but
with out hearing the curse, they may not have been able to tell
exactly what was going on. What they saw is Viktor and Cedric meet in
the maze, and Cedric fell down while Viktor stood over him. Viktor
could just as easily have been trying to figure out what was going on.
Then Harry joins them, and I think it would be more clear that Harry
was stunning Viktor; there is a flash of distinctive colored light
with the stunning curse (don't remember a flash of light with the
Imprious curse. Does the Cruciatus have colored light?). Once Viktor
was stunned, they sent up red sparks which to the observers would
indicate that whatever was happening was now under control.

Which brings us to Red Sparks. It's up to the champions to decide when
things are bad enough that they need to be rescued. When Cedric
encountered the Skrewt, that encounter alone would be enough to imply
to an outsider that Cedric needed to be rescued, but by not sending up
red sparks Cedric is implying that he thought he still has the
situation under control. Now if Cedric were laying unconscious, and
was about to be attacked by a Skrewt, I think someone would have
intervened. Everything in there was dangerous and potentially deadly,
so if people outside the maze were going to step in when ever there
was danger, there would be no point in sending anyone in, because they
would always be in danger.

And finally, I'm making all this up; it's not based on evidence. It's
based on my assumptions about what would be a likely way to construct
the situation if it were real. So, I've got lots of imagination, and
absolutely no proof. Make of it what you will.

Just a few thoughts.
