I never said that Ron sacrifices himself for Harry (the chess game didn't
even enter my mind until you mentioned it). I said that I wouldn't be
surprised if Ron was killed and that this sets up Harry killing Voldemort.
Maybe Ron sacrifices himself for Hermione or Ginny? Or maybe he's just in
the wrong place at the wrong time and is killed thinking that it will destroy
or weaken Harry enough to make him vulnerable to Voldemort's final assault.
I also wouldn't be to terribly surprised if Harry dies in the end. Or if
Hermione does. I just don't see them coming through this unscathed (although
I really hope they do).
And even if miracle of miracles they do all survive, they could just as
easily withdraw from each other. I can see Hermione or Harry going back to
the Muggle world. (oddly enough I can see Hermione having an easier time
leaving). I can't see Ron leaving the WW. Its all he's ever known.

Well I tend to SHIP with H/H but I think that we will have to actually wait
for the epilogue to see what JKR decides
