Marinafrants, pretty feet51, GulPlum were discussing
the existence and relevance of the life debt initiated
in the shrieking shack incident in message #52176

At the end of Book Three Dumbledore tells Harry about
the 'deep magical bond' that is formed between wizards
when one saves the others life. Then, at the very
beginning of book 4, Harry wakes with his scar searing
with pain after experiencing the death of the
goundskeeper at the old Riddle house. He has these
dreams twice in that book, direct insight into
Pettigrew and Voldemort's current activities. There
seems to be a kind of psychic connection, too.
This kind of connection would have been invaluable to
Dumbledore if he orchestrated the shrieking shack
incident. As a 'bugged' deatheater, Snape would have
been a considerable liability to Voldemort. James
would have had insight into the dealings of the
Deatheaters.
Snape is very good at knowing when Harry is 'up to
something', there might be a life bond connection
there, too.

There's no earthly way of knowing / Which direction we are going / There's no knowing where we're rowing / Or which way the river's flowing / Is it raining? / Is it snowing? / Is a hurricane a-blowing? / Not a speck of light is showing / So the danger must be growing / Are the fires of hell a-glowing? / Is the grisly reaper mowing? / Yes, the danger must be growing / 'Cause the rowers keep on rowing / And they're certainly not showing / Any signs that they are slowing!
