Just a small point...I don't think Lupin would have been in any condition to 
be able to do much of anything at that time.  Lupin was just beginning his, 
er..."monthly cycle"...and was "ill".  Snape had to substitute for him the 
day before and judging from the way Lupin looks like when he returns to his 
teaching duties ("Old robes were hanging more loosely on him and there were 
dark shadows beneath his eyes, COS p.185, US paperback) it would seem that 
the whole werewolf transformation ordeal is very intense one.  I imagine 
that during the day (when the Quidditch match was being played) Lupin was in 
his quarters recovering and not in any position to be looking at the map.

Anyway, that's my take.
