I haven't read the book that's used for comparison, but
aren't you trying to see parallels between *Draco* and
Darcy, not Lucius and Darcy?

And does Darcy ask for things in return (like Lucius,
wanting influence), or a place on the Quidditch team for
Draco...

Hm, while Draco might *prefer* if Hermione were the chosen
muggle-born, he's made it pretty clear that he doesn't care
for them in general:

**********
Then someone shouted through the quiet.

"Enemies of the Heir, beware! You'll be next, Mudbloods!"

It was Draco Malfoy. He had pushed to the front of the crowd,
his cold eyes alive, his usually bloodless face flushed, as he
grinned at the sight of the hanging, immobile cat.

Really? You think this is a reason for hate, the way Draco
displays it?

And even if it weren't *the* reason, I do believe he really
would like her to get killed in CoS (I don't know how he'd feel if
it really happened).

What are we supposed to agree on?
Personality? Looks?

I don't see Draco as a beautiful kid with too large eyes and
heavy locks tumbling in his forehead <g>.

Being pale and having grey eyes doesn't mean they look the
same or even similar ;)

Sorry, but seeing Draco turned into a basically nice kid who
is just too scared to show it just doesn't ring true for me
at this point.

Should he show signs of changing for the better, I'll be
happy to give him a chance.
