I can't resist jumping in on the discussion about Jane Austen-Harry
Potter parallels, but as I'm not much of a SHIP-per, I'd like to take
a different perspective.

The first point I'd like to make is that while JKR has said that the
Emma-Knightley twist is the best ever, I thought that they would be a
pair from the start. While I admire Jane Austen tremendously, IMO
JKR out-twists her. I never thought Quirrell was the bad guy; never
thought Ginny was behind the events in CoS; never thought Sirius was
a good guy; never thought Scabbers was anything but a rat; never
suspected that Fake!Moody was an imposter.

The next is that I see JKR using a number of Austen character names.
The most familiar is Mrs. Norris, the nosy aunt from Mansfield Park.
But I also think that she might have named Uncle Vernon after Lady
Catherine Vernon, as they are both overly concerned about how others
perceive them, as well as cruel and manipulative.

The last is that in Mansfield Park, Austen refers to a book
called "Crabbe's Tales" residing in Fanny Price's library. I'm not
sure how this might relate to Vincent Crabbe, but I thought it was
interesting nonetheless.
