Actually, the difference I've noticed is not in the vowel pronunciation, but
in the "g."
/an-i-may-gus/ versus /an-i-may-jus/ (that latter having a /j/ sound as in
"mage"). The latter sounds totally weird to me, but I've heard it and it
certainly has a valid derivation.
