<I'm wondering if there is a reason for
<this or if it is just poor editing....most of the time Percy's name is
<spelled "Percy", but other times it is spelled "Perce".  <snip> ....it
seemed to be
<spelled "Perce" most often when another family member was speaking to him,
<but that wasn't the case all of the time.

I believe that brothers George and Fred are calling him Perce when they are
trying to get him to become less stuffy, or poke fun at his overworking at
home
 for the ministry.  They call him "Perce" which is short for Percy.  A
nickname.
 Families and other close friends often shorten or make less formal certain
names, i.e.,  Bill=William, Charley=Charles, etc.   In Percy's case only the
twins do it - they probably do it because they know it will annoy him, his
being so proper.
