Well, you definitely have a point and to some extent what you are
saying would be a factor BUT there is no mention by any observer of an
extreme difference between the inside dimension and the outside
dimensions of Hogwarts castle. Whenever this has been a factor before,
like the tents or the Weasley's car, it at least got some casual
mention. So while I agree the things you mentioned come into play, it
is a magical castle afteral, I think it happens in a very minor way.

There are certainly a lot of staircases that do all kinds of strange
things and rooms, stairs, & hallways that appear and disappear but
still no mention of a huge discrepancy between inner and outer dimensions.

Inside or out this is still one huge mother of a castle, and I have
grossly underestimated it's size. I estimated Gryffindor Tower at 10
to 12 normal stories but it really should be 16 floors which is a
conservative 224 feet or 25 normal stories not counting the roof. In
view of that, the Astronomy Tower would be a minimum of 30 normal
stories and possibley closer to 40 or (40x9=360 feet).

This is a BIG castle.

PS: don't lose the distinction between floors and stories, and
remember my reference to stories applies to residential buildings.
Most commerical building have a false ceilings. Typically, the false
ceiling is at 8 to 10 feet and then a 2 foot crawl space between that
and the floor above. And in castles and commerical buildings the first
few floors tend to have high ceiling and the remaining are more standard.
