My two knuts (or k'noots, hehe):

I grew up in a place in central PA which everyone referred to as Second
Mountain Hollow. This was NOT the name of the town. It was not even the
"official" name of the development (that was "Haven Fair Lawn"). It was
merely a large hollow, as in a low place surrounded by hills, in which about
10 homes were situated. That being my experience, I have always imagined
Godric's Hollow as sort of the same thing.

Also, I believe Godric's Hollow is named for Godric Gryffindor, and as
Hogsmeade is the only all-wizard town around, Godric's Hollow wouldn't be the
entire town. I imagine Godric's Hollow is part of a larger muggle town, with
that particular section containing the houses of wizarding, or mixed
muggle-wizard, households.
