I was thinking that maybe since Avada Kedavra was unsuccessful there would
be
nothing there to come out of the wand. Unlike Cedric, Bertha, Frank, Lily
and James who had "shades .. ghosts" to prove it worked.

Sorry, I realized I misread the quote earlier...I kind of believe the same
as Melissa. Voldemort wasn't actually killed, but ripped from his body when
the spell rebounded. Because he did not actually die, there would be no
"echo" of his former self. All those that appeared from his wand were
really dead. Since Harry was the only person the spell was ever used on
that did not die, there just isn't anything else to compare it to.
On a sort of related topic (but off in left field):
Has there ever been any discussion about the possiblity that the spell did
not work not only because of Lily sacrificing herself to protect Harry, but
also because Harry is the heir to Gryffindor and the feather in Voldemort's
wand was from Fawkes who was likely Gryffindor's bird and therefore wouldn't
work properly against his true heir (like it wouldn't work properly against
Harry's wand)? I'm guessing it didn't work properly against Fawkes, either,
at the end of CoS when Riddle pointed it at him. There was a "bang," but
that's all that apparently happened since Fawkes took flight.
Sorry, I get wild ideas when I've been stuck inside all day...we've had
several inches of sleet and everything is frozen solid.
