Has there ever been any discussion about the possiblity that the
spell did not work not only because of Lily sacrificing herself to
protect Harry, but also because Harry is the heir to Gryffindor and
the feather in Voldemort's wand was from Fawkes who was likely
Gryffindor's bird and therefore wouldn't work properly against his
true heir (like it wouldn't work properly against Harry's wand)?

I like this idea, but I've always been a bit unclear about the
heir to X situation. Is the heir to X-house-founder the heir because
they are blood relations, or is there more to it?
*heir = blood relations:
It makes sense to me that anyone with Gryffindor blood would be
_an_ heir to Gryffindor. (Btw, this means that Riddle/Voldemort
being _the_ heir to Slytherin means that he was the only living blood
relation left - and therefore Lily couldn't be related to
Voldemort.) If this is the case, then Voldemort's wand not working on
Harry because he's got Gryffindor blood would also mean the wand
wouldn't have been able to work againt James, too - since James is
the one who would have passed down Gryffindor blood to Harry since
Lily is muggle-born. (Or does this mean that Lily _has_ to have
Gryffindor blood in her somewhere, way back? I think this is the
only way for both Cathy's great idea and this heir/blood-relation
idea to work.)
*heir = something more than (but possibly including) blood:
Is there any textual evidence that there is something more magical
at play here, perhaps some of that deeper, familial magic? Or are
there any theories about this?
