I agree with BBoy...great post. 

He saw his mother die, his schoolmate die and feels guilt regarding those deaths. He killed Prof Quirrell, so to speak. He has been in life threatening circumstances himself. How much closer to death can we get Harry? 

a.  Harry can die...or he can have a "near death" experience of some sort and some how be saved or brought back. I like this one because he would die, but then be brought back and JKR is true to her word, but not really...very sneaky. 

b.  Harry can actively cause the death of someone he cares about. 

c. As was suggested, he could delve into the mysteries of ghosts and their world. I like this one too!
