I agree with Pip on this one.  One of the reasons I wasn't as upset 
as other people seem to be when Sirius died is because I was pretty 
much prepared for it.  I thought that particularly in OOP, but also 
in GOF, JKR made the point quite clearly that poor Sirius was really 
only half alive.  All those years in Azkaban, then a year on the run, 
then stuck in that horrible house.  The poor guy just seemed doomed, 
to me. That doesn't make it any less painful and sad, though.  Sirius 
certainly deserved better than the rotten life and rotten death that 
he had.
