OOP: When McGonagall started

If you follow the theory that Lupin, Sirius and their peers are in 
their mid 30s, I think Dumbledore's been Headmaster for approximately 
25-30 years. This is why: in PoA, Lupin said that after he received 
the bite as a small child, his parents feared that he would never be 
able to go to school. THEN (keyword is then) DD became Headmaster, 
and he let Lupin in. The word then suggests that DD became Headmaster 
after Lupin became a werewolf. So, McGonagall, who has been teaching 
for 39 years probably started before DD was promoted. But this 
doesn't make sense...how did they both teach Transfiguration? I am 
basing the timeline on JKR's statement that Snape is around 35 or 36, 
presumably in GoF. If anyone has more information please let me know. 
Incidentally, the timeline that I have presented suggests that DD 
became Head around the same time that Voldemort took over Britain for 
the first time (when James & company were still kids). This makes 
sense, because I believe that DD only stays at Hogwarts to protect it 
from Voldemort. But this doesn't solve the initial query about 
McGonagall. I would love to hear other people's ideas.
