All right...aqui vamos: Harry & Co. are 5th years now. They should have the
ability by now to read the directions and follow them. It's not like they're
first years. They have four years of Severus telling them what to do in
Potions (although Ron has said "Like we don't have anything better to do than
listen to Snape" (not an exact quote!)). We've never (to the best of my
knowledge) seen Severus just write instructions and have everyone follow them. I think
Severus is an effective teacher.... The students could perform in their OWLs.
That's his job - to prepare them for the tests (because not all of them will
continue to take Potions for their future professions). If the students can
do the work, he's done his job. Wait! Before there are any mad responses:
This doesn't make him a *good* teacher necessarily. Effective and good are
different. I know that.

of those things where neither side will ever change their mind. And those kind
