The Sergeant Majorette says:
Yeah, he's spoiled rotten, but there's no evidence that either of his
parents particularly likes him. I still say Harry needs a
contemporary couterpoint for dramatic symmetry. Never forget that JKR
has plotted all this out on grids. The Sorting Hat says we all have
to pull together -- who else in Slytherin House do we know better?
(Snape is a grownup -- he doesn't count.)
To use darrin burnett's analogy, Draco has indeed turned into Wil E.
Coyote, which leaves Harry with nothing to say but "beep-beep". I say
our Harry is a classic hero on the scale of Bugs Bunny; he needs
Draco to rise to the level of Daffy Duck for the Final Confrontation
to have any poignancy at all.
--JDR, visualizing the final scene like this: having lost the
epic "rabbit season, duck season" battle, a broken and bleeding Draco
screeches "go on, shoot me again! I love the smell of cordite and
burnt feathers!"
