As to the brain attack, I think that Ron will fully recover.
I don't believe there is a far-reaching purpose for the brains (or
Ron's escape therefrom). Ron's attack serves as a basis for the
recuperative discussion underscoring the idea that emotional wounds
can be worse than physical ones, i.e."leave deeper scarring" (847).
Cf. Harry's physical scar with his emotional scars now that Sirius
has died.
Unfortunatly there isn't any Dr. Ubbly's Oblivious Unction for Harry.
Also, like the other phenomena featured in the Department of
Mysteries (Time, Death, Love) JK makes the point that the Human
Mind remains a mystery worthy of exploration, in the wizard as well
as the muggle world.
