It was certainly hard to take, but I think it's too early to say
whether it's a flaw in the book. Rowling has sacrificed a promising
character arc in order to deliver a huge emotional punch. The punch
has certainly been delivered, but is it worth losing the character
arc? We won't really know until we see how the next two books play
out.

Besides -- *Marina lifts her SAD DENIAL mug and takes a big swig of
butterbeer* -- Sirius' arc may not be over yet. :-)
