I too am worried about what is to happen to Buckbeak. Is he still shut 
up in Mad Mrs Black's bedroom?
I don't think that Harry will get him as a pet. Buckbeak is still on the 
run don't forget. He could hardly bring him to Hogwarts.

No, I think what JKR is referring to is the day Harry will inherit 
Fawkes when Dumbledore ceases mortal existance. Thats something I expect 
to happen in book 7.
