I'm amazed that you think a father who cares about his son's grades is
cruel and belittling. Would he be a better father if he accepted any
grades his son brought home, even if he knew his son could do better?
Isn't a good thing for parents to have expectations? It's not like
Lucius said "Draco, you are a loser. I can't believe you are my son,
you moron, you idiot, you dunce." He simply expressed disappointment,
as my parents were known to do occasionally when I behaved poorly or
clearly didn't earn the grades I was capable of.
Look, Lucius is no Father of the Year kind of dad. We all know that.
He is intent on teaching his son racist, hateful ideals.
Unfortunately, though, this does not make him a father who neglects or
physically/mentally abuses his son. Sure, we'd all get warm fuzzies
if we saw Lucius give Draco a big hug, but he's not a cruel father
because he's a bit distant. It is what he teaches Draco that is the
problem, not how he is teaching Draco.
