I still love the idea that Harry will use the Thestrals to enter the 
and return from the Land of the Dead for his continuing "education".  
After all, a thestral can find anyplace.  Plus, Harry noticed that 
the height of the crumbling archway of death was taller than he 
thought, so it would appear to be tall enough for a Thestral to pass 
through, and that they would be able to return, too, because they can 
find anyplace.
